PUPPETS

Soft Sculpture Puppets

I make plush puppets using upcycled fabric. I sew each pattern twice so the puppets can have a lining to hold in a thin layer of stuffing while still being hallow. The eyes are made with acrylic paint on white pillow cases than stitched on and stuffed.

For my senior thesis piece, I made three soft sculpture puppets and a tapestry with pockets for them to live in. The audience was encouraged to use the puppets. This piece also had a video and audio component.

Video of my Thesis Piece

My senior thesis piece included a video element. Projections of the puppets crawled around the tapestry and the gallery walls. I used a green screen to isolate my puppets moving in placed than moved the puppets to where I wanted them to be using an image of the tapestry. Finally, I used a projector and touch designer to move the video into place on the gallery wall.

Other Scrap Fabric Puppets

Ceramic Puppets

I made these puppets as part of my AP 3D art in high school. I consider them sculptures with movement rather than puppets in a more traditional performance sense. They are made from ceramics, white under glaze, acrylic paint, wire, felt, needle felting, and fur.

Plague Doctor Puppet

This was a puppet I made in 2020 using paper mache and trash bags. The puppeteer is hidden in the body. They put their arm above their head to puppet the head.
